Dr. Marcia Goddard is a neuroscientist on a mission.
She left her role as an Assistant Professor in academia to focus on building bridges between science and business. She is an expert on brain-behavior relationships, and their impact on team dynamics and performance, particularly in high performance environments. Marcia was the Head of Science and Innovation at international recruitment agency YoungCapital, as well as Head of People & Culture at impact company Tony’s Chocolonely. In 2017 she shifted gears to carve her niche in translating cutting-edge neuroscience into practical business strategies. As the founder of Brain Matters, she has been at the forefront of transforming organizations globally, tackling challenges related to wellbeing, diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as organizational culture.

In 2021 she joined The Contentment Foundation as the founder of Contentment for Business. Together with her team, she brings PhD-level knowledge and expertise on sustainable high performance cultures to large organizations and government institutions, promoting psychological safety, wellbeing, and inclusion at every level of the organization.

The Contentment Foundation is a non-profit organization. This means that 100% of the profits from Contentment for Business are used to make an impact in countries where it is needed the most. All profits from Contentment for Business programs go towards implementing The Contentment Foundation’s Four Pillars of Wellbeing school curriculum in communities that need it the most, all over the world.

Many of Marcia’s insights come from studying behavior and culture in Formula 1 teams and large corporations. By combining her neuroscientific expertise with business experience in HR leadership roles, she understands organizational needs and requirements. This allows her to develop and implement holistic, comprehensive strategies, policies, programs, and interventions that have a direct impact on performance and results.
Marcia is an award-winning science communicator, as well as an experienced keynote speaker and interviewer, able to bridge the gap between science and business. She speaks on a range of topics, but always with a ‘brainy twist’: neuroscience is the foundation of everything she does. Her mission is to break stereotypes: science is everywhere, and it doesn’t have to be boring! Marcia makes complex scientific subject matter accessible and easily digestible, using relatable examples and a lighthearted approach, no matter the topic.
